An Alfa Romeo Mito GTA hot hatch will be launched at the Geneva motor show this March, Alfa Romeo has announced.
The Alfa Romeo Mito GTA will get a 240bhp 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine and will keep the electronic Q2 technology, which mimics a mechanical limited-slip differential and is already standard on the whole Mito range.
The new Alfa Mito GTA is based on the same underpinnings as the Fiat Punto Abarth, and Alfa maintains that the GTA will set a new performance benchmark for the brand.
Weight saving is key to this hardcore hatch. A senior Alfa Romeo source told Autocar: “The Mito GTA will get more lightweight materials such as carbon fibre and aluminium, in keeping with our strategy to cut weight from all our vehicles in the future.”
Expect the styling to take on a much more aggressive look, with blistered wheel arches, more defined lines and, possibly, new contrasting colour schemes to make the Mito look more like a racing car.
As the spiritual successor to the Alfa 147 GTA, the hot Mito will take on the Mini John Cooper Works when it goes on sale in the summer.
The Alfa Mito GTA will have 31bhp more than the hottest Mini and prices will also undercut the Mini JCW by as much as £2000.
