Back in 1910, there was: A.L.F.A. (Anonima Lombarda Fabricca Automobile).
But in 1920 a guy called Nicola Romeo, put the shop upsidedown and made it profitable.
In pure vanity (what else?), he put his name to the company, so: "Alfa Romeo".
Up till 1986 (when the FIAT takeover came) Alfa Romeo has produced high quality 1 , full horsepower, and after the 1950's, cheap cars.
-Ok, but what is it, that gets you so excited when you see one, or talk about it? (and start gesticulating and defending it so much, you know about the "rust-thing" right?)
In my opinion Alfa Romeo is a habit, an addiction.
Here's why:
Alfa's are no cars, they're a way of life.
No matter how much money you need to spend to keep it going, you'll find excuses to justify the expenditure.
It's a virus.
Other Alfisti understand you so well!
Rust? What rust?
There's no "I put this metal piece in there, and when I turn it, there's some rumbling noise. I get from A to B without having fun, and gratification" feeling when you drive an Alfa... Why, you have to "put it on" (literally) first! (Ever heard the toyota or some other inferior mark's advert: "Get in, be moved."? That's what I mean)
And last but not least: They're just damn fine cars!
