Alfa’s 1750 might come with twin-turbo and 300hp
Those thinking that the importance of Alfa Romeo’s 1750 turbo-engine would grow less significant (we!) might be wrong. Rumor has it that their 1750 TBi Euro6 might be given a second turbo and therefore a maximum power output of 300hp. The announced 2200 4-cylinder petrol engine from Termoli will most likely serve an entirely different purpose and will not be meant for absolute sportiness. Alfa allegedly plans to use their legendary lightweight 1750 for the more sporty variants of their rear-wheel drive Giulia (and other models). The aluminum 1750 from Pratola Serra is said to serve duty in ‘Progetto 592’ as a biturbo with up to 400 Nm of torque.
This might become an important powertrain for our European market, while the engines with larger displacement are meant for the US. This new 1750 with double turbo should propel Alfa’s new sedan to 100km/h in less than 6 seconds and top out at 245 km/h (152 mph). This block’s entry level version is claimed to produce 240hp, like it now does in the 4C and Giulietta QV. These are the latest rumors coming from the peninsula, where they’re eagerly awaiting the new Alfa’s debut on June 24th. Other engines will be a 2.2 MultiJet diesel (also from Pratola Serra), the aforementioned 2.2 petrol (from Termoli) and the 3.0 V6 petrol (2.9 from Termoli) and diesel (from Cento). The biturbo V6 might produce up to 525hp.
