1968 GTA Junior 1300 Stradale

The GTA first shown at the 1965 European auto shows was soon to become legendary. The 'A' stood for 'Allegerita', or lightweight, because of the considerably slimmed down version of the unitary chassis covered with aluminum body panels, thereby saving 650lb (300 kg) of the standard Giulia's weight. The engine was similar to that used in the TZ, complete with the twin spark injection and dual Webers.
For homologation purposes a minimum of 500 examples had to be produced, postponing the GTA track debut to 1966. Fielded by Autodelta these nimble GTA’s were an immediate success. In the opening round of the championship at Monza GTA's filled the first seven places. Andrea de Adamich scored four victories and claimed the title; 200 wins were scored in the racer's maiden season followed by hundreds more in the following seasons with the crowning glory of a hat trick of overall wins in the European Touring Car Championship, 1966-67-68.
Two years later the similarly successful 1300 GTA Junior was introduced for the under-1300cc class. This particular GTA, chassis number AR 775946, was manufactured near the end of 1968 production run with a total of less than 500 (~400 actually built, less than half surviving today in all conditions) of these homologation specials made. Naturally this car has an aluminum shell and body panels which are all straight and in very good order. Paint work is also extremely good with nice detailing on the hood and front wings which are adorned with new serpent and quadrifoglio (cloverleaf) emblems. Many GTA's do not have the original engine fitted due to extensive track action, however this car has never been raced and has the original motor - a rare feature. According to the Vice-President of the AROC, this example is the only Stradale version now extant and running in the United States. The all aluminum, twin-spark, 1300-cc engine fires up instantly and revs freely, pulling hard in all gears.
The interior is in excellent condition with the black seats unmarked and in virtually new condition. All interior rubber is new. All instruments are in like-new, working condition. The rear seat is included in the car. The car is in fast road trim specification and is fitted with the optional limited-slip differential and Campagnolo magnesium (technomagnesio) wheels. Fully polished stainless steel bumpers are also offered with the car.
The car comes complete with the original sales brochure and owners manual. This very original three-owner car has only covered 7178 mi (11578 km) from new. It has been very well maintained throughout its life and is surely one of the finest GTA's in the world.
