Next Alfa 8C Competizione could be Based on Ferrari California Platform
There is little doubt in our minds that when the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione(current version pictured) was limited to a production run of just 500 units there were a lot of disappointed customers out there. We first saw it released at the 2006 Paris Motor Show and we were in awe of the Italian craftsmanship. A recent report by autocar now states we are likely to see a successor by 2010 and the Alfa executives are fighting to get Ferrari to share their California platform.
It is however a long shot with Alfa Romeo describing it as a difficult deal to do with Maranello, but the fact they are even trying shows the possibility must be there.
The new 8C will once again be a front-engined rear-wheel-drive car which is going to be made available in limited numbers once again. Design and mechanical decisions will only be confirmed once discussions with Ferrari have been completed, but with only 2 years to go before the model's release this is likely to be finalised sooner rather than later.
